West Surrey Badger Group Evening Meetings

What's on September - November 2018

Tuesday 25th September:
Lawrie Brailey (WAF)
Wildlife Rescues, Treatment and Releases

Lawrie is the media manager at Wildlife Aid in Leatherhead. He is the cameraman who films all the wildlife rescues, treatments and releases. He also edits the films for the TV series, Wildlife SOS. Lawrie will tell us about some of the rescues, and show us some of the gear he uses for filming in any weather, day and night.

Tuesday 23rd October:
James Giles, Natural England Reserve Manager
Thursley Common, the Work and the Wildlife

Thursley Common is a national Nature Reserve and one of the natural jewels of Surrey. It is a haven for all sorts of wildlife, including several badger setts. James is responsible for managing the reserve, and runs weekly volunteer work parties to assist in the habitat management of this large area. If you have never visited Thursley, come and see what you have been missing, and if you have, come and find out more about this special place.

Tuesday 20th November:
Nigel Palmer, Save Me Trust
Badgers and Bovine TB, a never-ending story - from hope to despair, and all the way back again

Nigel works for Brian May's Save Me Trust, and is based at Harper Asprey Wildlife Hospital in Windlesham. Save Me are working with Nottingham and Warwick Universities on a faster and more accurate cattle TB test, which they hope will be available soon. Nigel takes a look at the science and politics, and the prospect of creating a brighter future for badgers.
